Ski Lift Chairs

Alpine Alex and Slalom Sam are riding up a mountain in a chair lift to start a day of epic skiing. They are seated on chair number 61 and the chairs are number sequentially. Exactly halfway up the mountain, Alex notices they are directly next to chair number 18. He mentions this to Sam and asks, "How many chairs are on the lift?"
